“Rediscovering Our Past”
a history of the houses in the parish of St John’s, Castlerigg and Wythburn
In Thirlmere Recreation Hall,
Sat 11th Feb 2012, at 2 pm
Many
parishioners have contributed house histories. The book which includes
articles
on most houses is illustrated with many colour photographs and
historical
pictures. In addition, there are some personal memories by a number of
people
which include drawings by Steve Rycroft. Patrick Holmes (Hollinroot)
has
allowed us to use many of his aerial photographs of different parts of
the
parish. The book has been edited by Geoff Darrall and matches in style
the two
previous books (on Wythburn and St John’s-in-the-Vale) in our parish
history
series.
Only
400 books are being
printed. It is likely to become a collector’s item, so this may be your
only
chance to possess one!
The
book, which has cost over
£7 per copy to print, is free, and every house is eligible to receive
one,
thanks to the generous sponsorship by “Cumbria Fells and Dales”.
However, we invite
people to make a donation to Thirlmere Recreation Hall to off-set the
cost of
the recent refurbishment. People
may
have more than one copy.
There
will be a display of old
photographs, including a history of the Hall from 1941 to the present
day.
Entry
- £2-50 per person
including Afternoon Tea
